Killeen clerk hurt, another man slain in robbery

Marianne Lijewski, Herald

Killeen (AP) – Police are looking for three gunmen after a Central Texas clerk was wounded and another man fatally shot in a robbery after the convenience store closed.

Killeen police say the man who stopped to pick up the clerk was dead at the scene early Thursday. Investigators say the store clerk was in stable condition at a hospital.

Killeen police say the victims were confronted just before midnight Wednesday in the store parking lot.

Investigators say the gunmen wore dark clothing and had their faces covered. Police say the car driven by the man who was fatally shot was stolen by the suspects. The vehicle was later found abandoned.

Names of the victims were not immediately released.

Police are still looking for the men reportedly involved in the incident, and detectives are asking anyone with information about this shooting to contact the Bell County Crime Stoppers at 526-TIPS (8477), www.bellcountycrimestoppers.com or text KILLEEN along with your tip to 274637.
