KILLEEN, Texas (AP) — The funeral has been set for a Central Texas police officer killed in a weekend exchange of gunfire.

Killeen police say the funeral for 32-year-old Robert Hornsby will be held Thursday morning at the Killeen Civic and Conference Center. Burial will follow at the Killeen City Cemetery.

Officers arrived about midnight Saturday at an apartment complex after getting complaints of an armed man threatening people at a pool. They found the suspect holding an AK-47 assault rifle. As they tried to take him into custody, the suspect backed into an apartment and began firing, striking Hornsby.

Hornsby, a four-year veteran of the police force, was a married father of a 4-year-old daughter and 1-year-old son.

The family will receive visitors Wednesday evening at the civic and conference center.
