10 members of Mexican musical Banda group La Reyna de Monterrey were killed and 5 others injured during an early morning traffic accident on the highway connecting Nuevo Laredo to Monterrey, Mexico.

Early reports indicate that the driver of the van apparently fell asleep and veered into oncoming traffic eventually colliding head-on to an 18-wheeler.

The accident occurred between 7:00-8:00 a.m. local time when the group was traveling back from a performance Friday night in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas.

Back to Monterrey, thank God everything came out excellent in Nuevo Laredo, thanks to all the friends who joined us and thanks to the good friends of Laguito Barr for all your attentions.

Said an eerie translated post on the band's Facebook page with a photo looking out the front windshield of a van on the road back to Monterrey.

The impact of the crash was so severe that many of the deceased were thrown from the vehicle onto the roadside.  The majority of the band are young men under 25-years-old.

The injured were taken to a hospital in Salinas Hidalgo.
